【インターハイこぼれ話】

　今年のインターハイ（全国高等学校総合体育大会）は、新型コロナウイルス感染症の感染拡大の中、関係者の努力もあって、長野県を含む北信越地域で７月２４日から８月２４日まで行われました。

　今回は、硬式庭球部のインターハイ出場に関わっての後日譚です。８月上旬の休日、たまたま本校の高橋先生が学校にいたところ、思いがけない訪問客がありました。それは今回男子団体でインターハイに出場した本校硬式庭球部と初戦で対戦した足利大学附属高校の職員生徒でした。

　

　初戦は８月２日、夏らしい暑い日差しが降り注ぐ中、熱戦が繰り広げられました。シングルスでは主将の前川くん、そして２組のダブルス。観戦させてもらった私から見てもいずれも素晴らしい試合でした。相手の方が一枚上手で、深志高校は惜しくも初戦敗退となりましたが、健闘を讃えたいと思います。

　

　足利大学附属高校は団体２回戦で愛媛の新田高校に敗れ、栃木県に戻る前に、初戦の対戦相手だった深志高校のテニス部宛にわざわざ色紙を書いて届けてくれたのでした。

　色紙には「素晴らしい対戦 ありがとう」の言葉とともに、一人一人の手書きメッセージが丁寧に書かれています。

　

　この話にはさらに続きがあります。足利大学附属高校の生徒によると、宿泊していた松本市内の老舗ホテルには深志高校の今の校長先生が担任だった方が働いていて、その方から当時の深志高校の話を聞いたそうです。

　後日、そのホテルを訪問したところ、何と、私がかつて教諭として勤めていた頃のクラスの女生徒が、ホテルの受付で働いているではありませんか。世の中は狭いものですね。

　実は、彼女は今ではワールドトラベラーとして新聞にも取り上げられており、松本市ではちょっとした有名人なんです。

　なお、前回紹介ができませんでしたが、水泳部も県大会を勝ち抜き、北信越大会に出場しました。

   Interscholastic athletic competitions for high school students this year took place in five prefectures including Nagano from the 24th of July through the 24th of August, with full caution against COVID-19.

   Today let me tell you a warm anecdote concerning the tennis tournament held in Matsumoto.  

   One summer day a group of visitors came to Fukashi with no prior appointment.  They were the members of the tennis team at a high school attached to Ashikaga University in Tochigi prefecture.  They competed against the players at our school in the first round of the tournament, and in the second round they were beaten by Nitta high school in Ehime prefecture, and were on their way back to Tochigi.

   They came all the way to our school to give us a message board shown above.   On the board were warm messages from the members in Ashikaga to our tennis team who played good games against them.

   This anecdote has an additional piece of information about what made them visit Fukashi that day.  They said they had heard about our high school from an employee of the hotel they had stayed at.  According to them, the staff had graduated from Fukashi some time ago, and the present principal (it’s me!) had taught her.

   I couldn’t make out who she was, so I visited the hotel the other day, and recognized her all at once.

   She has been a staff at the reception desk for a few years now.  She has also been addressed in the newspaper in Matsumoto as a World Traveler.  How small our world is!
